If a car owners or driver tries starting a car with no success, it because the primary components that starts the engine has failed. The computer monitors some not all to ensure they are electrically powered and performing as it should so as to to trigger or command other components to help start the cars lets look at what you can easily identify via observation and listening and those that will require tools or diagnostic machine to find out.
Battery & Charging System - The charging system compensate for inadequate power in the car, especially when loads like air-condition, headlights, heaters are turned on. It also charges the battery purposely for starting and cranking periods. If the battery is bad, it would fail to store power to start the car. The only accurate way to detect a weak battery is with professional equipment, but you can also listen to engine sound or watch interior or exterior lights. If your battery and charging components are functioning ok, it must translate into a bright head, dome light and tail lights. Turn the head lights on and watch its brightness, if its dim you have a battery issue. Now try turning the ignition on, if the instrument or display control panel refuse to light up you have a battery problem. Finally try starting the vehicle, if you hear a click noise you have a battery problem
Routine care: Scrape away corrosion from posts and cable connections; clean all surfaces; re-tighten all connections. Let Adeiyie repair shops check the charging system as a maintenance service periodically to avoid any inconveniences.
Bad starter motor- If your battery is good but you hear a click noise anytime you turn your key ON, you starter or stator solenoid is defective or lacking power feed. If you have the tools to check fine if not Let Adeiyie repair shops check it for you immediately.
Engine cranks but car won’t start - Immediately the engine cranks, your battery and starter motor and solenoid are good. The ECM is monitoring certain components like the crank and cam through its sensors to command the actuators and solenoids responsible for spark, injection pulse and timing. If the ECM does not detect the functionality of the cranks and cam shaft, it would not start. To find out you must use a digital scope-meter or diagnostic scanner to figure our whether the sensors are reporting rpm signal or engine speed signal to the ECM.
Check fuel pressure/volume - Inspect or diagnose to ascertain whether the fuel pressure and volume is adequate - if not check your tank for fuel before troubleshoot the fuel pump motor, clogged fuel filter preventing fuel from reaching the injector housing and fuel line for leaks and wear that decreases the pressure and volume of the fuel. Car won’t start if any of these components are not working
Next check for spark. As part of the ignition, no matter how much fuel is present, without a spark, there won’t be any explosion to create the downward force of the piston, which is needed to turn the crankshaft. Don’t forget after your engine gets started by the starter, the starter stops working and allows the engine to do its own thing. The lack of spark is often a result of faulty spark plugs or wires, bad coil, cracked distributor cap or rotor, or a bad sensor. If you car won’t start after checking your fuel pressure and volume check and replace faulty spark components
Check Injector pulse - If both spark and fuel pressure is present, find out whether the injectors are firing to supply fuel to the combustion chamber. Since your cam and crank sensors are reporting engine speed movement to the ECM, the ECM must likewise command the injectors to fire fuel adequate enough to create combustion. using a powered test light you can find out whether the ECM is pulsing or commanding the injectors. If the injector muse is missing troubleshoot for ECM or signal wire circuit integrity issues. Adeiyie has the experience and know how to diagnose correctly ECM and its related components that has to do with car won’t start.
Compression - Even though your injector pulse is present with adequate fuel and spark, compression is also needed in order for the explosion to provide enough pressure, which causes the crankshaft to turn sending power to the wheels. If the engine lacks compression, it’s often due to bad piston rings, damaged or faulty camshaft or lifters, or the timing belt. Check to ascertain whether timing belt is not broken or timing is out of sync - off track. if not fix it. Next check whether the converter is clogged. There is a saying that convertors don’t get damaged they are murdered, because mis functioning spark plugs, oxygen sensors and issues relating to misfiring - like fouled spark plug and defective coils can murder the convertor. finally check and measure engine compression power.
